Improvements Slated For Kiawah Island Town Hall Garage – The Island Connection – The Island Connection

By Theresa Stratford for The Island Connection

The Town of Kiawah Island awarded the Town Hall’s garage improvements project to Duke Commercial Construction, LLC in unanimous approval at the Dec. 7 Town Council meeting. The request for proposals was announced in early Nov. with a deadline for submission by Nov. 24. The scope of work will include constructing office space, a car wash area for the Town’s cars, secured outdoor storage and bathroom renovations. The garage is located at 4475 Betsy Kerrison Parkway in the Kiawah Municipal Center. Two members of staff from the wildlife department will move into the new offices at the garage location which will open up space in the main building where they are currently positioned. It was noted that having two members of staff located at the garage will improve the efficiency of having the Town’s cars cleaned in a more consistent and organized fashion. LS3P designed the garage improvements. Duke Commercial Construction was awarded the bid in the amount they submitted of $173,507.25. The timeline for completion is contingent upon permits being issued. Duke Commercial Construction predicted that the project will take about two and a half months to complete. They will lead with a priority of finishing the office spaces first. Mayor John Labriola announced at the Town Council meeting that this project had been discussed many times over the past year. The other two bids submitted were from Satchel Construction for $186,036 and from Hospitality Builders for $198,036. There was a mandatory pre-bid meeting on Nov. 18. Duke Commercial Construction has also worked on a renovation project for Fetter Healthcare, as well as a recreation construction project for Nelliefield Plantation in Charleston.

The itemized scope of work comes out to:

• Conditioned office space – $125,761.25

• New Car Wash Area – $21,187.50

• Outdoor Secured Storage – $11,250

• Bathroom Renovation – $500
